Resveratrol Kills Cancer

Resveratrol Kills Cancer

Resveratrol has been paraded throughout the media lately, being praised for its ability to not only lessens the risks of heart disease and obesity but also for killing cancer cells. There has been a great deal of controversy over this fact and research is still ongoing.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has conducted a study on Resveratrol and found the best way to get this antioxidant into the blood stream is by eating grapes. The scientists involved in this study are not sure yet just how many grapes are necessary to help kill the cancer cells before they spread but are for now recommending at least 5 servings per day. This study was completed in 2005 but a more recent study was conducted at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health finding even more evidence to prove Resveratrol ‘s life saving abilities.

This more recent study has proven with animal testing that Resveratrol can help kill cancer cells but only the type of cancers relating to the central nervous system in children and babies. This research study has shown that Resveratrol can be a great cancer treatment for children because it is not harmful to the healthy cells, only the cancer cells. For cancers associated to the nervous system, it is important to treat the cancer cells aggressively in the beginning and then tone down the treatment to something less intense and non-toxic; this is where Resveratrol comes into the treatment plan.

There is a chance that Resveratrol can one day help treat other forms of cancer but for now scientists are still working to perfect their treatment plans for children with dangerous cancer cells. It may be years before we see development in cancer treatments and Resveratrol the natural antioxidant found within grape skins but it is not far away. More and more researchers are beginning to see what Resveratrol can do and if it has even the slightest ability to kill cancer cells this is a start into a new wave of cancer treatments for children and adults alike.
